A Role Model of Bravery & Dedication for the Nation!

By M S Nazki

They live for today on the crests and troughs of the mountains, fight for the nation and the last homage paid to them is always with a salute and the heart beating hard!

It is with so deep sadness that we felt the passing of Hav Baldev Singh (Retd), a revered war hero and veteran of the Indian Army, at the age of 93. It is really so sad.

It should be remembered Hav Baldev Singh was born on September 27, 1931, in the village of Naunihal, Naushera. At just 16 years old, he volunteered to join the Bal Sena Force under the leadership of Brigadier Usman, Commander of the 50 Para Brigade, during the Battle of Naushera and Jhangar in 1947-48. The Bal Sena, a group of local boys aged 12 to 16, served as despatch runners for the Indian Army in the critical moments of these battles. In recognition of their bravery, the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru honored the Bal Sainiks, presenting them with gramophones, watches, and the opportunity to join the Indian Army.

GOC and all ranks of #WhiteKnightCorps express deep condolences on the sad demise of Hav Baldev Singh (Retd), a 93 year old warrior who fought in the 1947-48 Indo-Pak War as Bal Sainik at Naushera under #Brigadier Usman.
Post participation as Bal sanik, he joined #IA & served for 29 years. He was Honoured by Hon’ble PM Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru & #ShriNarendraModi for his invaluable contributions to the Nation.

To be heroic is to be courageous enough to die for something; to be inspirational is to be crazy enough to live a little. A hero can go anywhere, challenge anyone, as long as he has the nerve. The true hero is one who conquers his own anger and hatred. Every person is a hero in his own mind. Hav Baldev Singh (Retd) was one of those kinds’…. Indian Army!
