The phrase “United We Stand Divided We Fall” is commonly used in different contexts to emphasize how important it is to stay united. The importance of working together in a team has been stressed here.

In this article, the phrase, “United We Stand Divided We Fall” has been intellectually explained through the story of four bulls living in a deep dense forest. Read the full story given below and help your kids to understand the precise meaning of the phrase.

  • A story, ‘United We Stand, Divided We Fall Story’
  • I have a good story to tell and its a Short Story on United We Stand Divided We Fall! Everyone would have heard it but forgotten the same:

Once upon a time, there lived four bulls in a deep dense forest. They were best friends and never apart from each other. All four bulls were bulky and strong. They used to sit together, eat together, bathe together, roam together, and sleep together. Nobody was strong enough to come near them. As the four of them were united, they were saved from their enemy. I had noted the same in my diary!

-May be many remember it and many may not be!

Not even the king of the Jungle, “The Lion,” dared to approach them. In the same forest, there lived a cunning leopard. He used to observe the bulls every day and licked his lips. The leopard wanted to eat all of them but was quite afraid. He thought for a while and soon made an evil plan to divide them. The leopard called his close friend Jackal for help. The leopard sent the jackal to the four bulls so that he could make them fight with each other. The jackal was successful in creating bad blood among them. Immediately, he ran to give good news to the leopard.

As a result, each of the four bulls started fighting against each other. Friendship of all four of them ended up quarreling with each other and now they were not united like before. Seeing this, the hungry leopard attacked one of the four bulls and shared it with the jackal as a reward. One after another, he killed and swallowed all the four bulls and enjoyed his feast.

Moral of the Story

The moral of the United We Stand Divided We Fall story teaches us that unity is a great strength, while division always leads to defeat. “United we stand, divided we fall” is a phrase used in many different kinds of mottos, most often to inspire unity and collaboration. Its core concept lies in the collectivist notion that if individual members of a certain group with binding ideals – such as a union, coalition, confederation or alliance – work on their own instead of as a team, they are each doomed to fail and will all be defeated. The phrase is also often referred to with only the words “United we stand”.

-I have a historic origin behind everything I write:

The phrase has been attributed to the ancient Greek storyteller Aesop,

-Our hand is always with you and that is what the Indian Army believes in: Throughout the era of diabolic and disastrous times they have stood by the people and by the way the people have understood the same!

-Nainon mein jyoti hai,

Seepi mein moti hai,

Janmon ke saathi,

Hum saath saath hain…

I have an anecdote to tell here which dates back to almost two decades back! We are on a routine patrol duty and it was almost mid afternoon! We walked into the school and were brightened up by the fact that the children came running to us! They were smiling and so were we! By the way that day we were carrying the instant two minutes pack of Maggie noodles! I told my boys let the children have a mini feast. They (Children were hardly eleven in number)! The boys started cooking them in the mesh tin and soon they were ready! The question was how to serve them! But the lonely teacher had somehow managed plates but there were no spoons but we had them! The party had begun! The children loved it but as were about to leave, we handed them over a notebook and couple of pencils! I noticed the glee on their faces! The teacher, Afzal, told us while we were going, Sir do visit again’! A healthy relationship had been established and that is the way the Indian Army works for the people!’

I can go on and on with such anecdotes because in a soldiers life such instances just pops up and after all we too are just one amongst the sea of humanity surviving on this mother earth!
