
Baramulla’s First-of-its-Kind Award Ceremony Celebrates Local Legends for Their Selfless Service and Unwavering Dedication

In a historic and heartwarming celebration at Thimayya Hall, Baramulla came together to honour its extraordinary achievers through the Shaan-e-Varmul award ceremony. Organized by the Dagger Division of the Chinar Corps on Army Day, this groundbreaking event paid tribute to 57 individuals whose relentless efforts have left an indelible mark on the district across diverse fields, including education, innovation, culture, and social welfare.
The awardees were chosen through an inclusive community-driven process involving over 13,000 nominations and a rigorous evaluation by a distinguished panel.
Cultural Preservation: Nisar Azam was celebrated for his acclaimed poetry collection, Patte Lazi Zoon Daras, which earned him the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar.
Women’s Empowerment: Mehak Khursheed, Baramulla’s first female baker-chef, was recognized for skilling women from Kashmir to Arunachal Pradesh.
Philanthropy: Mushtaq Ahmed Bhat, an industrialist, was lauded for his unwavering commitment to social welfare.
Science & Technology: Innovators Sheikh Anzar Amin and Shahida Bano received accolades for life-saving and practical technological advancements.
Education: Father Suresh Britto of St. Joseph’s School was honoured for shaping over 12,000 students’ lives.
Sports & Bravery: Martial artist Snowbar Akhter and young hero Momin Mehraj were celebrated for their achievements and courage.
Other honourees included neurologist Dr. Sarabjit Singh Chhibber, conservationist Dhritiman Mukherjee, poet Sher Ali Mashgool, and many more who have contributed to Baramulla’s progress.
The event also recognized the Chinar YUVA Cultural Group, creators of the world-record-setting Rouf dance involving over 10,000 girls, showcasing the richness of Kashmiri heritage.
The Chief Guest lauded the awardees, emphasizing their inspirational stories as a beacon for future generations. The ceremony underscored the collective power of community-driven progress, making it a defining moment in Baramulla’s history.
