Srinagar, March 24: In a strong display of dissent, scores of Asha and Anganwadi workers took to the streets of Srinagar, marching towards the residence of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, demanding an increase in their honorarium.
Carrying placards and chanting slogans, the protesting workers voiced their frustration over meager wages and the government’s inaction in addressing their long-pending demands. They emphasized their crucial role in healthcare and child welfare services, arguing that their remuneration should reflect their dedication and contributions.
Many workers expressed their struggles in sustaining their families with the current wages, calling for immediate intervention to ensure financial security and better working conditions. The protest highlights the growing unrest among grassroots healthcare and childcare workers, who play a pivotal role in delivering essential services across the region.
The demonstrators have urged the government to recognize their efforts and take concrete steps to improve their livelihoods. Whether their voices will be heard remains to be seen, but their determination underscores the pressing need for reform in the sector.
