Handwara Police Seize Vehicle of Notorious Drug Peddler Worth Rs 10.5 Lakh

Handwara, December 17, 2024:In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Handwara Police have seized a Hyundai Venue (Registration No. JK01AT/4651) valued at Rs 10.5 lakh. The vehicle, belonging to Javeed Ahmad Sofi, son of Abdul Razzak Sofi, a notorious drug peddler from Khunbal, Handwara, District Kupwara, has been confiscated as part of sustained efforts to combat the drug menace in the region.
The action was taken under the provisions of Section 68(F)(1) of the NDPS Act, 1985. The vehicle has been directly linked to proceeds derived from illicit drug trafficking. Investigations further revealed its connection to multiple drug-related cases, including FIR No. 193/2024, FIR No. 266/2022, and FIR No. 101/2018, all registered under various sections of the NDPS Act.
During the course of the investigation, the vehicle was identified as illegally acquired property, purchased using funds generated through the trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
Handwara Police reaffirm their unwavering commitment to eradicating the drug menace and protecting the youth from its devastating impact. Stringent actions will continue against individuals engaged in such illegal activities to ensure a drug-free society.
