Srinagar, Apr 06(TKD): In a disturbing spike in canine attacks, Kashmir reported at least 44 dog bite cases on Sunday, sending shockwaves across several districts. The worst-affected areas included parts of Srinagar, Pulwama, Kupwara, and Narbal.
According to officials quoted by news agency JKNS, the majority of cases came from Pulwama, Kupwara, and Narbal, with Srinagar’s Nawakadal and Sakidafar witnessing a concentrated number of attacks. Over 20 people — including women and children — were reportedly bitten by a mad dog in the areas of Sakidafar, Rashanhar, and Nowpora.
Other cases poured in from Dalgate, Narbal, and additional pockets of Srinagar, contributing to the alarming total. All victims were immediately rushed to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital in Srinagar, resulting in a heavy rush and emergency response at the facility.
A senior official at SMHS confirmed the figures and assured that every patient received anti-rabies vaccinations promptly.
“This is turning into a serious menace,” said Tufail Ahmad, a resident of Tarabal, Srinagar, whose two children were among those attacked. “The government must act swiftly and take effective measures to curb this growing threat.”
Public outcry is growing, with residents demanding urgent action from authorities to tackle the increasing stray dog population and prevent such incidents in the future…(TKD)
