Cabinet Sub-Committee Engages Public Over Reservation Rules, Assures Inclusive Review

Srinagar, April 6(TKD): The three-member Cabinet Sub-Committee on reservation rules, headed by Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, held a crucial interaction with various public delegations and student representatives at SKICC today to discuss grievances related to the existing reservation policy.

Committee members, including Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmad Rana, and Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, participated in the dialogue, aimed at gathering comprehensive feedback from stakeholders. Also present were Commissioner Secretary Social Welfare Department, Sanjeev Verma; Commissioner Secretary GAD, M Raju; Secretary Law, Achal Sethi; and other senior officials from the General Administration and Social Welfare departments.

During the deliberations, delegations presented their perspectives and concerns regarding the current reservation framework. Responding to the concerns, the Sub-Committee assured that the views of all communities and sections will be taken into consideration to develop an inclusive and balanced policy.

“We are open to discussions with everyone to reach a mutually acceptable and just solution,” the Committee noted, underlining its commitment to protecting the interests of every section of society.

The Sub-Committee further informed that it will submit a detailed report within the stipulated six-month time frame to the Council of Ministers, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

It is pertinent to mention that the Cabinet Sub-Committee was set up by the Omar Abdullah-led government shortly after taking office to address widespread concerns raised by various aspirant groups regarding the prevailing reservation rules…(TKD)
