
Moubani Sorcar, a legendary Indian actress and painter, was born Purbita Sorcar on October 21, 1987. As the daughter of world-renowned magician P. C. Sorcar Jr., she has made a name for herself in the Bengali film industry. In an exclusive interview, Moubani shares her insights with Rameez Makhdoomi.
How were your childhood days like?
My childhood days were truly golden. As the daughter of a world-famous magician, I had the opportunity to travel the world with my parents and sisters. These experiences were fairytale-like, and I gained invaluable cultural insights and wisdom.
How was your academic life like?
I was an exceptional student academically and actively participated in debates, drama, and dance. My teachers admired me greatly. During my higher education in English and mass communication, I excelled and discovered my passion for drama. I did excel also in Drama studies.
Tell us about your acting career?
I began receiving acting offers at a young age, but my parents encouraged me to focus on my studies. However, during my graduation, I took on acting and a telefilm, which became a massive hit. This led to my first feature film in Nagpuri, where I played a double role. My magical talents, inherited from my father, shone through in my performances.
How do you view the Bengali film industry?
The Bengali film industry is highly civilized and cultural, but it faces financial challenges. Despite this, the industry has contributed significantly to global film culture. I am confident that the current downturn will soon give rise to a resurgence in the Bengali film industry.
What are your inspirations?
My father, a great magician and human being, inspires me. I am also inspired by my mother and sisters, with whom I share a deep bond. Nature, particularly butterflies, inspires my poetry, and Charlie Chaplin is another idol of mine.
What are your hobbies?
I am a passionate painter and enjoy doodling. I love covering my books with imaginative art and writing poetry. My poetic book will be released soon. I also enjoy listening to music and taking walks to refresh my soul.
Being a magical legend, how is the influence of your father on you?
My father’s influence has been immense. He has instilled in me values like social responsibility, love, and care. His legacy of magic is a treasure of humanity, and I cherish it.
What is your message to humanity?
I believe being sentimental and emotionally alive makes us good human beings. We must help humanity and bind people together through the power of the heart. I wish for everyone to contribute to taking humanity to new heights and making the world a better place.
