Srinagar, June 18: Security forces confirmed on Tuesday that Umar Lone, the militant killed in Monday’s encounter in Bandipora District of Jammu and Kashmir, was a senior commander associated with both Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and The Resistance Front (TRF).
Brigadier 3 Sector, Atul Tyagi, addressing a joint press conference, disclosed that Umar Lone, hailing from Pattan area in Baramulla District, had been active since 2018 and held a category ‘A’ terrorist status within the LeT and TRF ranks.
“He was under our surveillance for some time, and based on intelligence regarding terrorist movements in Aragam area, a coordinated operation was launched by the Army, police, and CRPF yesterday. During the encounter that ensued, Umar Lone was neutralized after our forces came under terrorist fire,” stated Brigadier Tyagi.
Highlighting the success of ongoing operations, Brigadier Tyagi emphasized the heightened operational momentum of security forces, which has yielded significant results in anti-terrorism efforts.
The press briefing was attended by SSP Bandipora, Commandant 13 RR, and Commandant CRPF 3 Battalion, underscoring the collaborative effort of various security agencies in combating militancy in the region— Reported by IANS
