Officer Among 4 Soldiers, Cop Killed In Doda Gunfight

Jammu, July 16 (GNS): At least four soldiers including a Major and a personnel from JKP’s Special Operation Group were killed and a soldier was “critically injured” in a gunfight with militants in Dhari Gote Urarbagi in the Dessa forest area of Doda, officials said on Tuesday.

“Based on specific intelligence inputs, a joint operation by Indian Army and JKP was in progress in General area North of Doda,” army said in a statement.
The contact with militants, the army said, was established at around 2100 hours last night “in which heavy firefight ensued”.

“Initial reports suggest injuries to our bravehearts,” the army said, adding, “Additional troops have been moved into the area. Operations are continuing.”

Official sources told GNS that four soldiers including the officer succumbed to injuries. One soldier is admitted in critical condition, they said. Also, they said, a personnel of SOG died in the gunfight. (GNS)
