Man Injured in Bear Attack While Tending Orchard in Kulgam’s Devsar

Kulgam, July 20 (TKD): A 38-year-old man sustained injuries after being attacked by a wild bear early Sunday morning in the Devsar area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, officials confirmed.

The victim has been identified as Shabir Ahmad Shah, son of Ghulam Ahmad Shah, a resident of Qasba Devsar. According to officials, Shah was en route to his orchard to spray pesticides when the bear suddenly attacked him.

Alerted by his cries, locals rushed to the spot and immediately shifted him to Primary Health Centre (PHC) Devsar, where he received initial medical treatment. He was later referred to District Hospital Kulgam for further care. Officials say his condition is stable.

In response to the incident, the Wildlife Department Devsar, under the supervision of Incharge Imtiyaz Ahmad, launched a swift search operation to track the wild animal. A trap cage has also been set up in the area to capture the bear and prevent further danger to local residents.

Authorities have urged people in the vicinity to remain cautious and avoid isolated areas, especially during early morning and late evening hours.
