New Delhi, Jun 21 : A Delhi court will hear further arguments on Saturday regarding the interim bail plea of Engineer Rashid, who was arrested in a 2016 Jammu and Kashmir terror funding case, seeking permission to take oath as an MP.
Sheikh Abdul Rashid, known as Engineer Rashid, won the Baramulla seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls as an independent candidate, defeating former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of the National Conference.
Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh scheduled the hearing for June 22, instructing the NIA to inform the court about the oath-taking dates for newly elected MPs, set for June 24, 25, and 26.
Rashid, imprisoned since 2019 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, has requested interim bail or custody parole to fulfill his parliamentary duties. He is currently held in Tihar jail after being implicated during the interrogation of Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Watali, accused of funding terrorist groups.
The NIA has charged multiple individuals in this case, including separatist leader Yasin Malik, Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed, and Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin. Malik was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2022 after pleading guilty.
