Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah emphasized on Sunday that peace is the essential foundation for all progress, including development, tourism, and sports. He stated that while his government is often blamed for instability, ensuring peace is the primary responsibility of those in charge.
Speaking to reporters, Abdullah also commented on the recent floods, confirming that an assessment of damages is underway and compensation will be provided to those affected. He noted that the highway, which was partially damaged, has been largely restored, with repairs expected to be completed soon to ensure smooth traffic flow.
In a separate announcement, he stated that day-and-night sports facilities would be established in major districts across Jammu and Kashmir to improve sports infrastructure. However, he clarified that not every ground can be upgraded, and the expansion will be a gradual process. He highlighted that the release of a new T-shirt by the Real Kashmir football club was intended to promote a message of peace and harmony. He reiterated that without a peaceful atmosphere, public events like day-night matches cannot be successfully held.
