Anantnag Police Arrest Two Drug Peddlers; Contraband Seized

Anantnag, April 5, 2025:
Continuing its resolute campaign against the menace of drugs, Anantnag Police has arrested two drug peddlers in separate incidents and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In the first incident, a police team from Police Station Srigufwara, while conducting a naka at Chenar Crossing, Sirhama, intercepted a suspicious motorcyclist attempting to evade the checkpoint. The motorcyclist, traveling from Khiram towards Marhama on a two-wheeler bearing registration number JK11C-0712, was swiftly apprehended by the alert naka team. He was identified as Faizan Ahmad Bhat, son of Gh. Hassan Bhat, resident of Marhama. During the search, 300 grams of illicit cannabis powder, concealed under the seat of the motorcycle, was recovered. The contraband was seized on the spot and the accused taken into custody.

In a separate incident, a police team from Police Station Uttersoo laid a naka at Padderpora, Chittergul. One individual, on noticing the Police presence, attempted to flee but was tactfully apprehended by the naka team. On personal search, approximately 250 grams of charas powder concealed in a polythene bag was recovered from his possession. The accused was identified as Gulzar Ahmad Hajam, son of Nund Hajam, resident of Padderpora, Chittergul. He was arrested and the contraband seized.

Anantnag Police reaffirms its commitment to eradicate the drug menace from the district and urges the general public to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling or related activities. The identity of informants shall be kept strictly confidential.
