Pre-Poll alliance confirmed in Jammu Kashmir,

Congress and NC agree on seat distribution

Putting an end to the rumours, the differences between the Congress and National Conference over seat sharing have been resolved, sources privy to the information said.

Earlier, the Congress high command had sent senior leaders KC Venugopal and Salman Khurshid from Delhi to Srinagar in a final effort to secure a pre-poll alliance with the National Conference (NC).

The first round of talks had failed, increasing the speculation around the alliance with just one day left before the nomination deadline for the first phase of polling on August 27. News agencies from Kashmir reported significant disagreements persist over seat-sharing arrangements in key constituencies and many even stated that the alliance was over.

A senior Congress leader confirmed that the alliance is very much intact and the seat sharing has also been finalized and agreed upon by both the parties; NC and Congress.

Out of the twenty four seats that go to polls during the first phase of elections on September 18, Congress was mulling to contest from seven seats during the first phase of assembly polls. -(The Kashmiriyart)
