BJP Chief And Union Minister Nadda Named Leader Of House In Rajya Sabha
NEW DELHI, June 24: In a significant political move, BJP president and Union minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has been appointed as the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, official sources confirmed on Monday.
Nadda’s appointment comes as he steps into the role previously held by Union minister Piyush Goyal, who recently secured victory in the Lok Sabha elections and was sworn in as a member of the Lower House of Parliament earlier today.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge currently serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, setting the stage for dynamic parliamentary interactions in the upcoming sessions.
Among the 12 members of the Upper House who are part of the Union Council of Ministers, Nadda’s elevation underscores the BJP’s strategic realignment and leadership structure within Parliament.
Congratulating Nadda on his new role, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh extended his wishes while emphasizing the importance of collaborative governance in the parliamentary framework.
“Greetings to J P Nadda ji on his being nominated as the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha. As Venkaiah Naidu garu might have said — if the Leader of the House can accommodate, the Opposition can cooperate,” Ramesh conveyed in a post on social media.
The appointment positions Nadda at the forefront of legislative affairs in the Upper House, where the BJP holds a significant presence alongside various opposition parties, promising robust debates and policy deliberations in the sessions to come
