Srinagar, Aug 2 (TKD): A terrorist was killed in an ongoing encounter in the Akhal forest area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday morning, officials confirmed.

A senior police officer told The Kashmir Dialogues (TKD) that one unidentified terrorist has been neutralized so far, while the search and clearance operation continues in the dense forest area.

The encounter erupted after security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation based on specific intelligence regarding suspicious movement in the area.

“During the searches, terrorists opened heavy fire on the joint team, triggering a fierce gunfight. After a brief lull during the night, fresh firing resumed with the first light on Saturday morning,” the officer said.

Security forces have sealed off the entire area, with additional reinforcements rushed to the spot to ensure no escape route. Further details are awaited. (TKD)
