Anantnag, July 26, 2025:
In a major boost to its ongoing anti-drug campaign, Anantnag Police have arrested two notorious drug peddlers and seized more than 2 kilograms of contraband substances in separate, swift operations in Bijbehara and Sangam areas.
During routine naka checking near Dupatyar crossing, a Police Station Bijbehara team intercepted a suspicious individual identified as Mohd. Yousuf Mir, son of Gh. Ahmad Mir, a resident of Dupatyar. A search led to the recovery of approximately 1 kilogram of charas powder from his possession.
In a parallel operation, Police Post Sangam set up a checkpoint at Nati Pora Sangam Bund. A man carrying a polythene bag tried to escape on spotting the police but was quickly apprehended. The suspect, identified as Manzoor Ahmad Dar, son of Wali Mohammad Dar of Nati Pora Sangam, was found carrying 1.290 kilograms of charas-like substance.
Both accused were taken into custody on the spot, and cases under relevant sections of law have been registered. Further investigations are underway to trace the supply network behind the seized narcotics.
This crackdown underscores Anantnag Police’s commitment to dismantling the drug menace and ensuring a drug-free society.
