A Celebration of Heritage, Color and the Golden Spice of India
Every autumn, as the cool breeze begins to dance through the majestic valleys of Kashmir, something extraordinary happens — the fields of Pampore, fondly known as the “Saffron Town of India,” are blanketed with delicate purple crocus flowers. From these blossoms blooms a treasure that has enchanted the world for centuries: Kashmir Saffron
Held annually during the saffron harvesting season (usually in October-November), the festival brings together locals, tourists, artisans and nature lovers to celebrate a tradition that is deeply woven into the cultural and economic fabric of the region.
• Live Saffron Harvesting Experience: Walk through the blooming fields, pluck saffron flowers alongside local farmers, and watch as the crimson threads are separated by hand — an ancient and delicate art passed down through generations.
Cultural Performances: Enjoy traditional Kashmiri folk music, Rouf dance and storytelling that reflect the region’s deep spiritual and artistic heritage.
• Local Crafts & Cuisine: Explore stalls featuring Kashmiri handicrafts, pashmina, papier-mâché, and sample authentic dishes like Kahwa, Gushtaba, and Modur Pulao infused with saffron.
• Workshops & Demos: Learn about saffron grading, its medicinal and culinary uses, and the global importance of Kashmir’s GI-tagged saffron.
• Farmer Meet-Ups: Interact with saffron growers, hear their stories and support local livelihoods by purchasing directly from them.
The Kashmir Saffron Festival isn’t just about tourism — it’s about awareness, preservation, and empowerment. Let’s supporting the region’s heritage and help reviving one of India’s most iconic rural economies.
