Former MLC Sofi Mohammad Yousuf Protest 49th Anniversary of Emergency

Srinagar, June 26: Former MLC Sofi Mohammad Yousuf and BJP leaders, accompanied by party officials and supporters, staged a protest march today to commemorate the 49th anniversary of India’s Internal Emergency. “On June 25, 1975, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s declaration suspended fundamental rights, led to the arrest of opposition leaders, and severely curtailed press freedom, marking a dark chapter in Indian democracy”, Sofi Yousuf said. The demonstration highlighted concerns over preserving constitutional freedoms, with participants reaffirming their commitment to protecting democratic values and ensuring such events are never repeated.
