
Srinagar, June 16: Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a pivotal security meeting in New Delhi on Sunday, emphasizing stringent measures to combat terrorism in Jammu and safeguard the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage. The session, attended by top officials including NSA Ajit Doval and J&K LG Manoj Sinha, focused on fortifying security arrangements in light of recent terror incidents in the region.
Shah instructed the J&K administration and security forces to “crush emerging terrorism in Jammu” and prevent its resurgence, underscoring the need for foolproof security during the Amarnath Yatra. He emphasized heightened vigilance on Yatra routes, highways, and key sites like shrines and tourist destinations across Jammu and Kashmir.
During the meeting, strategies were discussed to enhance security cover, including additional deployments along vulnerable points and intensified intelligence operations against terrorist elements. Shah stressed the importance of proactive measures to curb support networks for terrorists and prevent infiltration across the border.
“The safety of every Yatri is paramount,” Shah asserted, outlining plans for a multi-tier security framework for the annual pilgrimage set to commence on June 29.
Praising security agencies for maintaining peace in Kashmir and reducing local terrorist recruitments, Shah acknowledged their role in ensuring secure elections in J&K. The meeting follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent directive to utilize comprehensive resources to eradicate foreign terrorism in the region, underscoring the government’s robust stance on national security.
