2020 Attack on Karwan-e-Islamia Chief: FIR Registered Against Five, Probe Intensifies

Srinagar, 11th: Police have lodged an FIR against five persons, including Manzoor Ahmad Bhat from Kupwara, Wali Mohammad Bhat from Maloora , Mehraj ud din from from sheikhpura Budgam in connection with the April 2020 assassination attempt on prominent Islamic scholar and Karwan-e-Islamia head, Dr. Ghulam Rasool Hami. The case has been registered at Parimpora Police Station under FIR No. 0114 of IPC 1860.

According to officials, the investigation has picked up pace, and multiple aspects of the case are being examined. “Several leads are under active scrutiny, and more action is likely,” sources said.

Following the 2020 attack, Dr. Hami was also subjected to an organised smear campaign on social media, where false allegations and fabricated stories were circulated. These claims were later proven baseless and were widely seen as an attempt to tarnish his religious, social, and academic standing.

A Karwan-e-Islamia spokesperson confirmed the FIR registration and said the organisation is extending full cooperation to the investigating authorities. “In the coming days, we will provide more details about the incident, the progress of the probe, and the legal proceedings,” he added.
