Indian Army Launches Community Radio Stations in J&’s Baramulla District

Baramulla, June 22: The Indian Army inaugurated two community radio stations in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday, aimed at nurturing local talent and empowering the community, officials announced.

These community radio stations, located in Baramulla and Uri, were established by the Dagger Division and were formally inaugurated by General Officer Commanding (GOC) Chinar Corps, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, according to a statement from Srinagar-based PRO Defence.

The stations have been branded as ‘Radio Baramulla 89.6 FM – Alfaaz Hamare Ehsas Aapke’ and ‘Radio Uri 90.0 FM – Pahadon ki Dhun’. They are designed to serve as vibrant platforms for local communities to voice their achievements, discuss government schemes, share news and culture, and provide entertainment.

Highlighting the initiative, the Chinar Corps Commander acknowledged and felicitated local children who have excelled in various fields such as martial arts and education, encouraging them to continue striving for excellence.

Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai urged the citizens of Baramulla and Uri to make full use of these community radio stations to share their stories, aspirations, and dreams.

Significantly, the stations have engaged and trained local children as radio jockeys (RJs), providing them with a unique opportunity to develop their skills and potentially shape their future careers in broadcasting.

The initiative has been warmly welcomed by the residents of Baramulla and Uri, who see these radio stations as fostering a sense of belonging and providing a fresh avenue for entertainment.

The establishment of these community radio stations underscores the Indian Army’s commitment to empowering local communities through communication and providing platforms for their voices to be heard.

This initiative is expected to not only entertain but also inform and empower the people of Baramulla and Uri, contributing to their socio-cultural development.
