Rapid Growth in J&K Healthcare Sector Highlighted by LG Manoj Sinha

Srinagar, September 20: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha stated on Saturday that Jammu and Kashmir has undergone a significant transformation in its healthcare infrastructure over the past few years, with both public and private sectors playing a crucial role.

Speaking at the inauguration of Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital in Srinagar, LG Sinha said that J&K is now among the most developed regions in the country for healthcare.

He highlighted the increase in medical colleges, from just four before 2019 to 11 today, in addition to two AIIMS and a widespread Indian System of Medicine network. The LG also noted that the Prime Minister’s universal health coverage scheme provides a health insurance cover of ₹5 lakh to every resident of J&K.

Sinha emphasized the rapid expansion of medical facilities, which now includes new super-specialty hospitals and private clinics across the Jammu and Kashmir divisions. He expressed his hope that the newly opened eye hospital would offer high-quality care comparable to major cities and encouraged them to conduct regular outreach camps in rural and border areas to serve a wider population.
