Boy drowns in canal while bathing in Baramulla’s Chijhama

Rescue operation launched, body retrieved, probe underway

Srinagar, Aug 18 : A boy drowned in a canal while bathing in the Chijhama area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla, district officials said.

They added that a rescue operation was launched soon after the incident, and his body was retrieved.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Corner (KNC) that the body of the boy who was bathing in the Chijhama water canal has been retrieved after he drowned on Sunday.

He added that the boy was later identified as Ovais Ayoub, a resident of Handwara, and a rescue operation to retrieve the body was conducted.

Meanwhile, the police have initiated an investigation, and the body will be handed over to the legal heirs after medico-legal formalities.
