Police nabs former BDC members in Rajouri with heroin-like substance

Jammu, June 21(GNS): Police on Saturday nabbed a former BDC member with 10 grams of heroin-like substance in Rajouri district, officials said.
A police official told GNS that a police party from Police Post Lamberi was laid a special naka at Bagnoti near Radha Swami Ashram and at approximately 1600 hours, a vehicle (JK02DL-7776) was intercepted which was on its way from Lamberi towards Bagnoti. Upon noticing the police presence, the individual attempted to flee but was promptly apprehended by the alert police personnel, the official said.

The accused has been identified as Vikas Kumar Sharma, former BDC member (Ex-BDC) and Ex-Sarpanch son of Darshan Kumar Sharma of Thill Hakima, Rajal B, Tehsil Nowshera Status:.
“During a personal search, approximately 10 grams of a heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession,” he said, adding, “Accordingly, a formal case has been registered at Police Station Nowshera under FIR No. 80/2025, U/S 8/21/22/25 of the NDPS Act.”

The official said that the accused who served as a BDC Member in the year 2019 and remained on chair for 8 months (from Sep 2019 to April 2020), has a history of involvement in criminal cases.

Local sources told GNS that he was subsequently removed from the position through a No-Confidence Motion passed by the local Sarpanches and Panches in April, 2020.

He also held the position of Sarpanch during 2019 for a period of 10 months (from Nov 2018 to Sep. 2019)
“Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the contraband and identify any possible links to a broader drug trafficking network,” the official added. (GNS).
