Woman Murdered, Burnt in Cowshed in Pahalgam; Husband, Mother-in-Law Arrested

Srinagar, Jan 10(TKD): Police have arrested a man and his mother for allegedly murdering and burning the body of a woman in the Pahalgam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The incident occurred on October 4 last year.

The victim, Shabnam Akhtar, was killed by her husband, Imran Khan, a laborer, with the assistance of his mother, Noor Hassan, according to a police officer.

“During questioning, the husband confessed to murdering his wife with the help of his mother and burning her body in their cowshed,” the officer told GNS.

Following the confession, a police team accompanied by a Duty Magistrate, a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team, and the accused visited the crime scene. During the investigation, they recovered hair, bone fragments, and the deceased woman’s mobile phone. These items were sealed in the presence of the Duty Magistrate for further examination.

A formal case (FIR No. 01/2025) under relevant sections has been registered against Imran Khan and Noor Hassan, wife of Mouz-ud-din Khan. Both accused have been arrested and are currently in custody.
