Washington, July 27 (TKD): US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to hold immediate talks to negotiate a ceasefire after three days of intense border clashes that have killed over 30 people and forced more than 130,000 residents to flee their homes.
Speaking from Scotland, Trump revealed on his Truth Social account that he held separate conversations with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand’s acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai. He warned both leaders that the continuation of hostilities could jeopardize future US trade agreements with their countries.
The border conflict, which has rapidly escalated, has triggered a humanitarian crisis with tens of thousands displaced. The upcoming negotiations, brokered under US pressure, are expected to take place within the next 24 hours.
