New Delhi, Sept 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Sunday that the next phase of Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms would be implemented beginning tomorrow, coinciding with the first day of Navratri. Describing the new measures as a “GST saving festival,” the Prime Minister stated that they are designed to simplify the tax structure, accelerate economic growth, and provide significant benefits to families across the country.
In an address to the nation, Modi extended his best wishes for the festive season, adding, “From the first day of Navratri, the nation is taking a crucial step towards a self-reliant India and our path of development.” He expressed confidence that the reforms would bring joy to every household, particularly benefiting farmers, women, youth, and the poor.
The Prime Minister recalled the pre-GST era, describing the old system as a complex web of multiple taxes that burdened traders and citizens. He highlighted how GST, introduced in 2017, created a new history by replacing octroi, entry tax, sales tax, and VAT.
He stated that with the start of the “GST Bachat Utsav” tomorrow, citizens will experience increased savings, enabling them to purchase more of their desired goods. He also emphasized that the reforms would ensure every state becomes an equal partner in India’s development journey.
