Srinagar, Mar 07(TKD): In a long-awaited move, the government has sanctioned ₹86 crore for the construction of a state-of-the-art 250-bed Maternity and Child Care Hospital (MCCH) in Anantnag, addressing a critical healthcare gap in the region.
Announcing the allocation on Friday, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah emphasized the urgency of the project, given the dire conditions of the existing hospital. Currently operating from a dilapidated building in the congested Sherbagh locality, the hospital has been struggling with limited space and outdated infrastructure.
Declared unsafe by the fire and emergency department in 2014, MCCH Anantnag has been forced to place beds in corridors to accommodate the rising number of patients. With just two labour wards, four surgical wards, and a single operation theatre, overcrowding remains a persistent challenge, often compelling multiple patients to share beds.
The new facility is expected to significantly improve maternal and child healthcare services in South Kashmir, offering modern medical infrastructure and easing the burden on the existing hospital……..(TKD)
