Ashok Koul Joins 9th Muharram Procession in Budgam, Emphasizes Unity and Shared Values

Budgam, July 5, 2025 (TKD):
In a significant gesture of communal harmony and respect, BJP General Secretary (Organization) for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Ashok Koul, participated in the 9th Muharram procession held in Budgam on Saturday. His presence marked a symbolic show of solidarity with the Shia Muslim community during one of their most solemn religious observances.

Amid the spiritual ambiance of remembrance and mourning, Ashok Koul was seen distributing water to the mourners, offering a service that holds deep cultural and religious significance during Muharram. The act was widely appreciated by participants and observers as a sign of empathy and respect.

Speaking to the media during the procession, Koul remarked,

“Muharram is a time of deep reflection. It teaches us the eternal values of sacrifice, truth, and standing up against injustice. Today, we stand united with our Shia brothers and sisters to honor the legacy of Imam Hussain (AS), whose message is universal and timeless.”

Koul was accompanied by several BJP leaders including Budgam District President Ghazi Rahullah, district team member Mudabir Baba, and other senior party officials. Their participation was seen as an effort to bridge communal gaps and foster interfaith understanding in the region.

The presence of a senior BJP leader in the religious procession comes at a time when promoting communal harmony and inclusiveness remains a critical priority in the socio-political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.
